She met with the University of Guam Sea Grant Program and local officials. Touring the island, Dr. Garber learned about Guam\u2019s unique natural resources, their cultural importance, and pressing environmental threats.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the UOG Sea Grant Program, Dr. Garber shared, \u201cI am happy to see the program engaging Guam\u2019s community and assisting with important coastal resource issues.  I am encouraged by the potential of the program to continue growing and look forward to great things to come.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Based in the UOG Cooperative Extension &amp; Outreach Service, Sea Grant brings the science of coastal resources to Guam\u2019s people. Recent faculty hires, Dr. Austin Shelton and Marie Auyong develop enriching outreach activities and support a competitive graduate student research program focused on healthy coastal ecosystems and resilient communities and economies. <\/p>\n<p>The National Sea Grant College Program is a partnership between universities and the Federal government\u2019s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an agency within the Department of Commerce.
