Gov. Ralph DLG Torres has proclaimed the week of June 19-25 as Farmers and Ranchers Week. This Saturday, June 25, the CNMI will celebrate Saipan Agricultural Fair Day.<\/p>\n
The theme for the weeklong celebration is \u201cProduct of the Land is our Economy\u2019s Backbone\u201d for it is our hard working farmers and ranchers\u2019 ability for safeguarding today for tomorrow. Every year, farmers and ranchers face challenges such as natural disasters, downturns in markets and plant disease, which can financially cripple their operations, but they persevere. <\/p>\n
Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog is calling on the CNMI community to celebrate the \u201c33rd Agricultural Fair Day\u201d and urge all citizens to appreciate what our farmers and ranchers have provided for us and our tables, and to support their effort by buying local and help improve our economy. <\/p>\n
A release from the Governor\u2019s Office said farmers and ranchers are recognized throughout the world as an essential profession that comes with traditional and cultural practices. These careers meant nothing less than honesty and coherency with nature and the environment. Farmer and ranchers are led with one mission, to work with our land and our livestock.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday, we reflect on that tradition of farming and ranching, which has provided and ensured the freshness of our products in our markets and on our tables. Through centuries of hard work, they have supplied our islands with products and services essential to the economic and physical wellbeing of our community,\u201d it stated.<\/p>\n
The release added that, \u201cFarmers and ranchers are two different, equally important land stewards that have similarities and differences in a way food is raised and produced. Farmers and ranchers stimulate economic growth by providing quality fruits, nuts, vegetables and meat as produced by their crops and livestock. Farmers have to spend countless hours and extended periods of time per acre on their land to plant, grow and harvest a crop. Ranchers spend their time gathering, moving and working their livestock and implementing fences and watering systems in a fashion that maintains or improves the native condition of their land.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
