{"id":230529,"date":"2016-06-22T06:00:05","date_gmt":"2016-06-21T20:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=230529"},"modified":"2016-06-22T06:00:05","modified_gmt":"2016-06-21T20:00:05","slug":"epa-report-need-better-internal-controls-cnmi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/epa-report-need-better-internal-controls-cnmi\/","title":{"rendered":"EPA report: Need better internal controls in CNMI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HONOLULU<\/strong> (AP)\u2014The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s inspector general says the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands needs to improve the way it handles federal money awarded for wastewater treatment infrastructure and other environmental programs.<br \/>\nThe EPA inspector general said in a report released Monday the commonwealth\u2019s Department of Environmental Quality and the Commonwealth Utility Corp. need to improve their internal controls.<\/p>\n<p>The report says more than $58 million in funds may not be administered efficiently and effectively without adequate internal controls and oversight.
