Open to all kids ages 6 through 12, the camp will help participants appreciate the performing arts by studying concepts and skills in theatre which they will then apply towards a production at the end of the year. This year, the camp will also help students learn more about film production, and the theme for the entire camp will be Star Wars.

Interest in the camp was so high that the school had to increase the cap from 30 to 40, with some applicants still on a waitlist. “We are thrilled that our community is so interested in theatre, filmmaking, and Star Wars,” said school president and Theatre Club adviser Galvin Deleon Guerrero. He added, “Our Theatre Club has staged numerous stage and film productions, so this camp will help us share our love of both traditions with kids from around the island. The Force is strong with them.”

Set to run each weekday from 8am to 4pm at the school, the Kids Drama Camp will help kids learn more about many aspects of the performing arts, including how to perform on stage, how to run the back stage, and how to prepare for a production. The camp will also introduce students to key aspects of filmmaking, including preproduction, production, and postproduction. Kids in the camp will also learn and enjoy numerous theatre games and activities that will help them overcome stage fright, grow closer together as an acting troupe, and become young budding dramatists and filmmakers. The camp will culminate with a film that the students make, most likely a Star Wars fan film.

Since its inception in 1996, the school’s Theatre Club has staged almost 40 productions, including numerous films. To draw on this experience, current and veteran members of the club have been tapped to run the camp as camp leaders and camp counselors. The club will also draw from vast theatrical resources it has accumulated over the years for use in the drama camp.

The Kids Drama Camp is made possible by a grant from the CNMI Department of Community and Cultural Affairs (DCCA) Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Program.

This past week, Mount Carmel School’s Theatre Club launched its 2016 Kids Drama Camp, which…

[8
12198,133,1381,3986
post-230670","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-life-and-style","tag-kids-drama-camp","tag-run","tag-star-wars","tag-theatre-club
["GET
