Cruz has given his full political support behind Congressional Delegate Candidate Tony Babauta.

The official endorsement occurred Wednesday night, June 29, during Babauta’s kickoff fundraiser in Hagatna before Babauta’s family, friends, and supporters.

“Tony has been a bright and dynamic political power for years and it’s evident by his longevity as a professional staffer in the U.S. House of Representatives as well has his appointment by President Obama as the Assistant Secretary of the Interior,” Senator Cruz said. “There has been no other candidate of his caliber for our island and I’m happy to endorse him in the upcoming primary election and encourage others to do so as well. He has my full support. “I’m aware that some in our community continue to ask about the IG report written about Tony. I’ve read it and haven’t found any evidence that he was attempting to do anything illegal or unlawful. I think he has been one of the most aggressive assistant secretaries willing to fight for Guam and other insular areas. We are better because of him and I look forward to him representing us in the future.”

“I am excited to have vice speaker Cruz endorse me and join my effort to become Guam’s Delegate to Washington, D.C.,” Babauta said. “I’m honored to have such an accomplished public servant on my side and willing to indicate to voters in the upcoming primary that they will have a choice and that his choice will be me.”

Cruz is not only a former chief justice of the Guam Supreme Court, but also the first openly gay judge appointed by the late governor Ricardo J.
