Hans Sholley is inviting former residents of Sumay village and their descendants to a memorial Mass on NBG July 20. <\/p>\n<p>The event is coordinated with the Santa Rita Mayor\u2019s Office as part of the island\u2019s <\/p>\n<p>Liberation Day festivities. <\/p>\n<p>The Mass will be held 11am at Sumay Cemetery, followed by a luncheon hosted by the mayor\u2019s office. Former Sumay residents and descendants may contact the Santa Rita Mayor\u2019s office to arrange access for the Mass.\t<\/p>\n<p>Sumay village was once known as the \u201cPearl of the Island\u201d before World War II. Evolving from a small fishing village to the agricultural and commercial hub for ships in the mid-1800s, it became an economically rich village by the 1930s.
