Three more persons have filed their candidacies for the Nov. 8 general elections. The Commonwealth Election Commission started accepting submission of nominating petitions and candidacy last July 11.<\/p>\n
Anthony Indalecio Duenas, Herman Manglona Atalig, and Andrew Lujan Orsini filed their candidacies before the election commission last week and early this week.<\/p>\n
Election commission acting executive director Julita Villagomez disclosed yesterday that Duenas is running as an independent for a House of Representatives Precinct 1 seat.<\/p>\n
Precinct 1 covers San Antonio, San Vicente, and Koblerville.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said Atalig filed his candidacy for the Board of Education Rota position, while Commonwealth Utilities Corp. human resources manager Orsini filed his candidacy for the BOE Saipan position.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said for the BOE positions, there are two seats that would be contested for the November polls\u2014one each for Saipan and Rota.<\/p>\n
Former lawmaker Antonio Muna Camacho was the first to file his candidacy. He is running as an independent for a House of Representatives Precinct 5 seat.<\/p>\n
Precinct 5 covers Kagman, Papago, As Terlaje, and part of San Vicente.<\/p>\n
Camacho used to serve as a House representative.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said the deadline to file nominations and candidacy is Aug. 10.<\/p>\n
She said election commissioners have to meet to certify the candidates.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Villagomez disclosed that election commission staff will be going to Tinian and Rota to accept candidates\u2019 petitions and nominations on Aug. 9 and 10.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re doing this so they don\u2019t have to come here,\u201d Villagomez said.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said the CEC staff will be accepting petitions and nominations both at the Department of Public Safety on Tinian and Rota on that same days from 8:30am to 4:30pm.<\/p>\n
There are 35 seats up for grabs in the coming Nov. 8 general elections. <\/p>\n
