{"id":233720,"date":"2016-08-05T06:06:22","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T20:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=233720"},"modified":"2016-08-05T06:06:22","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T20:06:22","slug":"one-candidate-submits-zoning-sign-permit-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/one-candidate-submits-zoning-sign-permit-application\/","title":{"rendered":"Only one candidate submits zoning sign permit application"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With less than a week from the deadline for political candidates to obtain zoning sign permits, only one has so far submitted an application to the CNMI Zoning Office.<\/p>\n<p>Zoning administrator Therese T. Ogumoro disclosed yesterday that they are giving candidates until Wednesday, Aug. 10, 4:30pm to submit their applications for temporary zoning permit.<\/p>\n<p>Ogumoro said only one candidate so far submitted an application, while several others already picked up applications but have yet to turn them in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re encouraging them to bring it in before the deadline to avoid facing penalty of $250 per day,\u201d she pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>Ogumoro said all they need is the filled-up application with attached listing of the locations where candidates are going to install their campaign signs.<\/p>\n<p>The temporary zoning permit costs $40. Zoning has started issuing such permit in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI see it reasonable to charge $40,\u201d the administrator said.<\/p>\n<p>Ogumoro said once they issued the temporary zoning permit, the candidates have to comply with some conditions in it.<\/p>\n<p>She cited some conditions include that signs should not be interrupting or obstructing view and should be of limited height.<\/p>\n<p>Ogumoro noted that only this year that they kind of look at things coming in slow and that she has a feeling that many candidates are confused.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of them are gearing toward putting up signboards on private properties,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ogumoro, however, pointed out that Zoning has jurisdictions at both private and public places.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s up to them to visit also Department of Public Lands if they are going to put on at public lands, but for Zoning it\u2019s anywhere\u2014public and private,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ogumoro said some candidates may think because their signs will be on private property they don\u2019t need to get zoning permit.<\/p>\n<p>She said under the law, Zoning has jurisdiction of both private and public properties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage them to come in so they can go through the permitting process and they can know the requirements before installing their signs,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With less than a week from the deadline for political candidates to obtain zoning sign&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900],"tags":[2331],"class_list":["post-233720","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-featured","tag-public-lands"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/233720","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=233720"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/233720\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=233720"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=233720"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=233720"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
