The five members of the Commonwealth Election Commission are going to hold a meeting next week to certify the candidates for the Nov. 8 general election, according to acting CEC executive director Julita A. Villagomez yesterday. <\/p>\n
Villagomez disclosed that the meeting will be held at CEC\u2019s office at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe next Wednesday, Aug. 17, at 1:30pm.<\/p>\n
CEC currently has five commissioners\u2014three for Saipan and one each for Tinian and Rota. There are four vacant positions\u2014two for Saipan and one each for Tinian and Rota.<\/p>\n
As of yesterday at noon, 38 persons filed for their candidacies. There are 35 seats up for grabs in the coming Nov. 8 general election. <\/p>\n
Only the Democratic Party has yet to file its nominating petitions and candidacies. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, CEC acting executive director Villagomez urged candidates on Tinian and Rota to file their nominating petitions and candidacies on the islands today, Tuesday, and tomorrow, Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said that on Tinian, a CEC staff will be entertaining the candidates at Tinian Department of Public Safety from 8:30am to 4:30pm on that two days.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said that on Rota, a CEC staff will accept nominating petitions and candidacies at the Youth Center also at the same days and time.<\/p>\n
Villagomez said the same CEC staff can also assist the registration of voters on Tinian and Rota.<\/p>\n
