A former Guam Department of Customs official and his wife were sentenced last Aug. 8 in U.S. District Court for conspiracy to import methamphetamine or \u201cice\u201d to the U.S. territory in 2012.<\/p>\n
District Court of Guam Chief Judge Ramona Manglona sentenced Eric Tedtaotao to 71 months incarceration followed by three years of supervised release, and 100 hours of community service.<\/p>\n
Tedtaotao\u2019s wife, Macrina, was then sentenced by Manglona to serve 97 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, and 100 hours of community service. Both pled guilty to conspiracy to unlawfully importing methamphetamine.<\/p>\n
On Aug. 4, 2012, Bertha Moore, Macrina\u2019s aunt, arrived in Guam from the Philippines. She was detained by Guam Customs and Quarantine who recovered three condoms containing methamphetamine from her rectum. Moore was transporting the methamphetamine into Guam for the Tedtaotaos. Moore was sentenced last year to 87 months in prison.<\/p>\n
United States Attorney for the Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands Alicia A.G. Limtiaco stated, \u201cDefendant Eric Tedtaotao, at the time of the criminal activity, was a DOC officer and as law enforcement, violated the public\u2019s trust. It is not uncommon for methamphetamine hydrochloride possession and distribution to be associated with violent and other criminal activity. The drug has destructive and devastating effects on individuals, families and our community. The U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office is committed to the aggressive prosecution of drug traffickers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The investigation was conducted by Special Agents and Task Force Officers of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Guam Police Department, Superior Court of Guam Probation Office, Guam Customs and Quarantine, U.S. Marshals Service, the Filipino National Police and the U.S. State Department.
