Stanley Torres (Ind-Saipan), one of the longest serving lawmakers in the CNMI, will seek re-election in the Nov. 6 midterm elections.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI am seeking re-election as an independent. I will run to continue to protect the interest of the people and not of any party,\u201d Torres told Saipan Tribune. He first served in the 7th Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>While Torres has been running as an independent, he has been aligned with the governor&#8217;s political party. He said it is not a coincidence that Gov. Benigno R. Fitial&#8217;s former Covenant Party and now Republican Party always has at least one vacant slot for Precinct 3 where he is from.<\/p>\n<p>Fitial&#8217;s Republican Party has so far only three of six Precinct 3 slots filled, and they include those for incumbent House vice speaker Felicidad Ogumoro, Roy Rios and Joe Saures. The GOP said three more will be named at a later time.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos&#8217; Covenant Party also currently has only two slots filled for Precinct 3: incumbent Rep. Edmund Villagomez (Cov-Saipan), and Bryan S. Torres, the Public School System&#8217;s mathematics program coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>By Haidee V.
