A police officer was arrested on Rota yesterday for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl since she was 9 years old. <\/p>\n
Police said the girl had confessed to a teacher that she does not know what to do and that sometimes she wants to end her life.<\/p>\n
Police Officer Melvin Maratita Manglona, 48, was served with an arrest warrant on charges of sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.<\/p>\n
Manglona was taken yesterday afternoon before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho, who imposed a $100,000 cash bail.<\/p>\n
Preliminary hearing will be on Aug. 23 at 1:30pm.<\/p>\n
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for Manglona. Assistant attorney general Jonathan Robert Glass Jr. appeared for the government.<\/p>\n
Rota Police Detective Chloe Hocog stated in her report that she started the investigation on Tuesday at noon after she received information that a school principal filed a complaint about a sexual abuse involving a police officer.<\/p>\n
Hocog said in an interview the girl stated that Manglona has been sexually abusing her since she was 9 years old and that the recent sexual encounter happened just last Thursday, Aug. 11.<\/p>\n
The girl stated that Manglona picked her up from her sister\u2019s house in the morning and drove her to a baseball field, where he sexually abused her in the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Hocog said according to a teacher, the girl walked into her classroom on Monday, where she typed on her phone about how hard it was for her to talk to anyone about her situation.<\/p>\n
The girl then implied to the teacher about the person who sexually abused her.<\/p>\n
The teacher disclosed that the girl had sent her text messages throughout summer break this year about her problems with a certain boy and that she cannot stand what was going on.<\/p>\n
The teacher later found out that the boy the student was referring to was Manglona.<\/p>\n
