{"id":234721,"date":"2016-08-22T06:06:23","date_gmt":"2016-08-21T20:06:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=234721"},"modified":"2016-08-22T06:06:23","modified_gmt":"2016-08-21T20:06:23","slug":"man-adhd-gets-time-served-threatening-kill-mother-machete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/man-adhd-gets-time-served-threatening-kill-mother-machete\/","title":{"rendered":"Man with ADHD gets time served for threatening to kill mother with machete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jason De Castro Yamada, a 21-year-old man who has an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and accused of threatening to kill his mother with a machete and physically abusing his younger brother, last week entered a guilty plea and was slapped with a prison term of one year, eight months, and five days. <\/p>\n<p>Yamada signed a plea agreement with the government and pleaded guilty on Thursday to the offense of assault with a dangerous weapon.<\/p>\n<p>Superior Court Associate Judge Teresa K. Kim-Tenorio accepted Yamada\u2019s guilty plea and sentenced him to five years imprisonment, all suspended except one year, eight months, and five days for time served.<\/p>\n<p>It means that the defendant will not serve more prison term. Yamada has been in custody since Dec. 13, 2014. He was placed on supervised probation for five years.<\/p>\n<p>Among the conditions imposed is that Yamada shall maintain mental health treatment on outpatient basis or inpatient basis as recommended by the Commonwealth Health Center\u2019s psychiatrist\/doctor immediately upon release.<\/p>\n<p>The defendant is not allowed to possess or consume any alcoholic beverages during the probationary period. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine at a rate of $10 per month.<\/p>\n<p>The court dismissed the remaining charges as part of the plea agreement.<\/p>\n<p>According to the factual basis of the plea deal, Yamada threatened his mother with a machete in his hand on Nov. 16, 2014 on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds appeared for the government. Assistant public defender Michael Sato served as counsel for Yamada.<\/p>\n<p>Detective Norman L.
