He suffered bruises on the forehead and under the right eye, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammad Parvez Barpery, 46, an employee of a recycling center, was arrested for assault and battery and disturbing the peace. His bail was set at $5,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Oct. 12 at 9am.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for the defendant. Assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda appeared for the government.<\/p>\n<p>Police detective John Anthony Hofschneider stated in his report that two police officers were dispatched to a residence in central Garapan on Saturday afternoon after the victim called for police\u2019s help.<\/p>\n<p>Barpery allegedly strangled the victim then punched him many times in the face. Barpery only stopped the beating when his wife and brother-in-law pacified him.<\/p>\n<p>The victim locked his bedroom and called the police.
