{"id":238829,"date":"2016-10-20T06:06:26","date_gmt":"2016-10-19T20:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=238829"},"modified":"2016-10-20T06:06:26","modified_gmt":"2016-10-19T20:06:26","slug":"cec-mail-1563-absentee-ballots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cec-mail-1563-absentee-ballots\/","title":{"rendered":"CEC to mail 1,563 absentee ballots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Election Commission staff completed early yesterday morning packaging the 1,564 absentee ballots shortly after 21,400 ballots came in. <\/p>\n<p>CEC is expected to mail the absentee ballots either today, Thursday, or on Friday, according to CEC administrative officer Kayla S. Igitol. <\/p>\n<p>The Office of the Public Auditor has to examine the ballots before mailing them out.<\/p>\n<p>Of 1,564 absentee ballots, one such voter picked up the ballot at CEC yesterday, Saipan Tribune learned. <\/p>\n<p>Of 1,564 absentee voters, CEC has found 85 of them to be \u201cnonresident voters\u201d or \u201cdual voters.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>CEC, however, is still going to send ballots to those 85 because they don\u2019t want to take away their right to vote.<\/p>\n<p>A CEC administrative officer will conduct a voter removal hearings and voter challenges.<\/p>\n<p>After the ballots arrived at the CEC office in Susupe Tuesday at 11:30am, CEC later conducted an inventory of the ballots.<\/p>\n<p>CEC staff led by executive director Julita A. Villagomez then processed the absentee ballots until 2:30am yesterday. <\/p>\n<p>There are 17,936 registered ballots.
