(Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Northern Marianas Humanities Council will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on Oct. 28 with a fundraiser at the Pacific Islands Club\u2019s Magellan Restaurant from 6pm to 10pm.<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speaker Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner, a Marshallese poet, writer, climate change activist, performance artist, and journalist, will be headlining the council\u2019s fundraiser next week.<\/p>\n<p>Jetnil-Kijiner delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the United Nations\u2019 2014 Climate Summit in New York City. Her poem, Dear Matafele Peinem, drew a standing ovation.  <\/p>\n<p>Council chair Frankie Eliptico is honored that Jetnil-Kijiner would be present for the council\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are truly fortunate that Kathy has accepted our invitation to speak and perform at the 25th anniversary fundraiser next week,\u201d Eliptico said. \u201cHer poetry reading at the United Nations has inspired many around the world and brought greatly needed attention to small countries like the Marshall Islands who are impacted by climate change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A musical tribute to the late David K. Peter would also be featured at the fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets could be purchased at the council\u2019s office at the Springs Plaza for $50 a ticket. <\/p>\n<p>Buying a ticket not only includes entrance to the party but also includes dinner, raffle prizes, entertainment, and beverages.
