Edwin P. Aldan (R-Tinian) said he has accepted the honest mistake made by the Commonwealth Election Commission and has moved on from it. The CEC mistakenly assigned Aldan the No. 2 on the ballot instead of No. 1.

He said his campaign team had already informed his supporters of the mistake and sent out a message through their network that his number on the ballot is No. 2.

Aldan is seeking re-election under the local Republican Party ticket with Senate President Francisco M. Borja. He will be going up against Diana H. Borja for the lone House seat at Precinct 6.

Aldan said one of his supporters informed him of the mistake. “It was an unfortunate incident but I’ve accepted it. Things like this should have been evaluated and done properly. I brought it up to the CEC and they told me it was an honest mistake.”

He added that CEC officials should always make sure all information on the ballot is correct. “I could understand if there’s 16 people running for the House of Representatives on Tinian but there’s only two of us.”

“I should have been No. 1 but now, technically, I’m No. 2. I won’t give them any problems and additional headache. I don’t also want to extend this election because of the error. I would be content for now.”

But he added that he would still bring up the issue to the CEC after the election. “We’re not done with this issue. I’m still going to meet with the CEC and discuss about it. We don’t have elections every day. Elections are either held every two or four years, or a special one.”

He said the number is not that important to him. “That’s why when the time comes, people should be doing their jobs, correctly. It’s the name of the person that matters.”

Rep. Edwin P.
