{"id":239312,"date":"2016-10-28T06:06:37","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T20:06:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=239312"},"modified":"2016-10-28T06:06:37","modified_gmt":"2016-10-27T20:06:37","slug":"cuc-enters-settlement-former-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cuc-enters-settlement-former-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"CUC enters settlement with former staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. has entered a confidential agreement with a former employee, Carlton Stevens, who filed a discrimination lawsuit against the agency. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. District Court for the NMI designated Judge Frances M. Tydingco-Gatewood dismissed with prejudice Stevens\u2019 lawsuit yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The dismissal follows the parties\u2019 stipulated request.<\/p>\n<p>Dismissal with prejudice means Stevens can no longer re-file the case.<\/p>\n<p>The judge said pursuant to the parties\u2019 request, the court retains jurisdiction to enforce the terms of the agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney James Sirok is counsel for CUC. Attorney Pamela Brown-Blackburn is counsel for Stevens.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens, an African-American, sued CUC and its four officials for allegedly not renewing his contract as direct responsible charge operator in CUC\u2019s wastewater division, providing him a used and inoperable computer, and not providing him an office space, among other complaints.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2014, the court dismissed the lawsuit.
