Marianas Trekking and Flame Tree TV founder and Gold\u2019s Gym co-owner Chris Nelson took the seat of Vicky Benavente as a member of the board of directors of the Marianas Visitors Authority yesterday during the regular board meeting at the MVA conference room.<\/p>\n
Board chair Marian Aldan-Pierce was delighted to have Nelson back as a board member.<\/p>\n
\u201cDirector Nelson would be on the board representing the small businesses. We are very happy to have him back because as a board member he comes in with a different perspective, which we really need so that the tourism industry is represented as whole,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
She added that Nelson\u2019s take on certain subjects provide valuable information that is usually overlooked by other members.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe expect him to be a very vocal board member as he has been in the past. He brings up things that we don\u2019t normally see, which is really good. He has been co-chairing the business enhancement committee with Ed Arriola, and they are both doing a good job at what needs to be fixed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nelson himself is happy to be back in the board.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am excited and honored to be back on the MVA board and will continue to work on destination enhancement projects. We recently finished the Beach Pathway lighting project, which we are really happy about. People are using the pathway to run, walk, and spend time with their families. This is a project that means a lot to the local community as well as our tourists. It\u2019s win-win. Now we need to make sure the lights stay on and copper wires stay intact,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Nelson is now pushing for the renovation of the Paseo de Marianas in Garapan, which has been ongoing through landscaping, daily trash collection, security services, bathroom cleaning, signage installation, and tour site maintenance.<\/p>\n
