{"id":239966,"date":"2016-11-08T06:06:58","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T20:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=239966"},"modified":"2016-11-08T06:06:58","modified_gmt":"2016-11-07T20:06:58","slug":"uss-frank-cable-returns-regional-deployment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/uss-frank-cable-returns-regional-deployment\/","title":{"rendered":"USS Frank Cable returns from regional deployment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SANTA RITA, Guam\u2014Submarine tender USS Frank Cable is scheduled to return from its first major deployment in 14 years to U.S. Naval Base Guam on Nov. 8, after a five-month deployment. <\/p>\n<p>Frank Cable, which departed Guam on June 6, will conclude a deployment to the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and U.S. Central Command area of operations\u2014providing vital flexibility to fleet commanders and extending the range and impact of U.S. naval forces in the U.S. Navy\u2019s 5th and 7th Fleet area of operations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith great pride I watched the combined Navy and [Military Sealift Command] crew of USS Frank Cable rise to every challenge as they demonstrated the flexibility and capability of a submarine tender,\u201d said Capt. Drew St. John, Frank Cable\u2019s commanding officer. \u201cThrough their dedication and hard work this ship successfully supported the ships and submarines of both the 5th and 7th Fleets, demonstrating more than ever the relevancy of the submarine tender to today\u2019s security environment. Their actions ensured our naval combatants were ready to \u2018fight tonight.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n<p>USS Frank Cable performed a variety of tasks and made some significant milestones during the deployment: <\/p>\n<p> Frank Cable was a persistent presence throughout the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, where the crew performed more than 10 community relations events designed to deepen the crew\u2019s understanding of other cultures and to build friendships with host nations. <\/p>\n<p> The Repair Department provided support to submarine and surface ships, providing vital flexibility to the fleet commanders, extending the range and impact of U.S. naval forces in the U.S. Navy\u2019s 5th and 7th Fleets. <\/p>\n<p> First ship since 1973 to dock in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, during the Vietnam Conflict. <\/p>\n<p> Frank Cable sailed more than 18,173 nautical miles on this deployment. <\/p>\n<p> Conducted port visits in the Philippines, Diego Garcia, India, United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Japan. <\/p>\n<p>Frank Cable Public Affairs Office will also stream the event on Facebook Live at www.facebook.com\/FrankCableAS40.
