This is the first time that FlyerTalk has ventured outside the continental U.S. for a familiarization tour.

Guam’s unique tropical location, coupled with the vast infrastructure of United’s hub operation, were factors in deciding to bring the group to Guam. The group arrived at Guam on United’s island hopper flight via Honolulu.

FlyerTalk co-founder Richard Baum said, “We are a group of aviation buffs who enjoy flying and giving back to the people who serve the aviation industry. We wanted to fly United’s legendary island hopper flight, as it is truly a unique experience. Most of us had never taken it and had never been to Guam, so it seemed like a natural combination.”

While in Guam, the group visited United’s Guam airport operations and was able to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run an important hub operation like Guam. United’s Guam leadership team provided tours and a Håfa Adai welcome reception to the group that was also accompanied by Inside Flyer, another online community started by the original owner of FlyerTalk.

During the group’s visit in Guam, FlyerTalk’s charitable organization Frequent Flyer Giving held a silent auction in an effort to raise funds for the United We Care Employee Relief Fund, which offers timely and short-term crisis relief to those in the United family needing basic financial assistance unavailable through other resources.

Justin Marion, United’s general manager, Guam, said, “We are proud that the FlyerTalk team chose United and Guam. The organization provides useful information to the traveling public and also contributes to important charities such as United We Care. Additionally, we were able to share the Håfa Adai spirit that Guam and United are known for.”

FlyerTalk is an online forum that features discussions and chat boards that cover the most up-to-date travel information.
