A lot of people would have to say we did not have much of a choice in the matter and certain other candidates, like Bernie [Sanders], should have stayed at least for the end of the campaign. The problem was, Bernie did not receive enough support to keep running so that means it’s the voters’ fault. To not exercise our rights and complain about the outcome is just unfair.”
—Kimberly Hipolito, Koblerville

“I was actually not for either candidate, both for Hillary and for Trump. However, if I had to choose, I definitely would not have chosen Trump. I mean Hillary’s morals are questionable but I feel like with Trump and how he portrays women and different factors, I don’t want him as a president. Even now that he has won, I’m not sure of how to feel about it but I am willing to give him a chance and see how things go.”
—Bradwell Batallones, Garapan

“I mean it’s okay, things just might be like how [the Philippines] Duterte made things in his homeland anyway. I definitely supported Trump throughout the election.”
—Frances Naraja, Garapan

“Well it was unexpected. Everyone thought it was going to be Clinton. Things would have gone either way with the two running and nobody really wanted to vote for either of them anyway. Even if Clinton won, I’m sure there would also be a lot of people being upset about the turnout. As for Trump, he said a lot of bad things and I will leave it at that. I mean he did win, hopefully fair and square, and I hope he shows more during his presidency than when he was running.”
—Michael Dilley, Fina Sisu

“I’m scared about what President Trump plans for immigrant workers, particularly for my kababayans [compatriots] which he said came from a “terrorist” country. Trump’s view about Muslims, LGBTs, and gender equality is something that I am concerned about. With his administration, who knows what will happen to the long-term guest workers on island. However, we should give him a chance to prove himself and fulfill his promises and unite the nation again.”
—Rovic Caberos, Dandan

“We didn’t have much of a choice in the beginning. Both running candidates for the office of Presidency seemed to have very questionable principles, ultimately having the one with the worse set of morals among the two getting elected. I just hope that his term goes by quickly or better yet, get impeached within the year.”
—Jennifer Quemado, Garapan

“I don’t like him because of the way he speaks. It seems very mean. To me, things would be a lot worse if he was in charge.”
—Daniel Capayes, Susupe

“I, for one, believe Trump to have very skeptical views on important aspects of society. How women should be seen, what certain religions and ethnicities can tell about a person, and one’s sexual orientation are topics the man does not seem to consider significant. However, there definitely were pretty bad presidents in the past and Bush was even re-elected, so maybe he could actually benefit our country.”
—Harvey Calibo, As Lito

[4
14246,14247,67
post-240457","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-frances-naraja","tag-kimberly-hipolito","tag-people
["GET
