{"id":240732,"date":"2016-11-17T06:09:52","date_gmt":"2016-11-16T20:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=240732"},"modified":"2016-11-17T06:09:52","modified_gmt":"2016-11-16T20:09:52","slug":"opa-begins-fiscal-year-2016-audit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/opa-begins-fiscal-year-2016-audit\/","title":{"rendered":"OPA begins fiscal year 2016 audit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of the Public Auditor will soon begin its annual single audit of the CNMI government\u2019s budget for fiscal year 2016, which ended last Sept. 30. The OPA regularly audits government expenses and prepares a report to maintain the transparency of all departments and agencies of the administration.<\/p>\n<p>Public Auditor Michael Pai is requesting the cooperation of all government entities in assisting Deloitte &amp; Touche LLC, the independent auditing firm that they hired to assist them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe CNMI\u2019s audit report is required by auditing standards to be issued by June 30, 2017. In order to achieve its objectives, everyone involved must provide full cooperation and prompt assistance to the Deloitte auditors,\u201d said Pai in a letter to government departments and agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Pai added that all government units that are subject to the single audit must also issue their reports no later than May 31, 2017, \u201cto allow enough time for Deloitte to include entities\u2019 audited financial information in the CNMI\u2019s government-wide audit report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGovernment entities\u2019 single audit reports not issued in time for inclusion will have a negative impact on the quality of the CNMI\u2019s audit report,\u201d Pai added.<\/p>\n<p>The audit done in a timely manner and its quality are factors in getting good financial ratings that would translate to getting federal funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTimely completion and the quality of the CNMI\u2019s government-wide single audit are factors in financial ratings by third parties and helps the CNMI obtain federal funding,\u201d said Pai. \u201cTherefore, we recommend all CNMI government entities take necessary steps to ensure a smooth audit process such as ensuring that personnel involved in working with the auditors are available, that files needed are complete, and accounting records are up to date.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of the Public Auditor will soon begin its annual single audit of the&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":48,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[20,26,136],"class_list":["post-240732","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-budget","tag-cnmi","tag-opa"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/240732","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/48"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=240732"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/240732\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=240732"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=240732"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=240732"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
