Monroyo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Shirley\u2019s Badminton Club took the lead in the 9th Annual Traders Insurance Badminton Team Tournament after downing Alamo\/Armatech-sponsored United Badminton Club, 25-20, over the weekend at the TSL Sports Complex.<\/p>\n<p>The closely fought match was decided by the games on Court 3 with Shirley\u2019s pulling off a 13-8 victory in the seven events. On Court 1, which featured eight events, Shirley\u2019s and UBC were in a standoff, 12-12. Shirley\u2019s prevailed in the men\u2019s BC, mixed AB, women\u2019s AA, and women\u2019s CC doubles, while UBC won the women\u2019s BB, mixed AA, and mixed BC doubles matches on Court 3. <\/p>\n<p>On Court 1, Shirley\u2019s triumphed in three of the first four events, ruling the women\u2019s BC, mixed BB, and men\u2019s BB doubles, while UBC topped the men\u2019s AA doubles. UBC added the men\u2019s AB and women\u2019s AB doubles to its credit, while Shirley\u2019s earned victories in the mixed CC and men\u2019s CC doubles.<\/p>\n<p>Ferdie Arago and Windy Fernandez handed Shirley\u2019s a 21-14, 19-21, 21-15 win in the mixed AB doubles, while Lani Bartolome and Hannah Choi needed only two games to beat Marlene Peraja and Malou Malasarte in the women\u2019s AA doubles, 21-16, 21-12.<\/p>\n<p>In the mixed CC doubles, Shirley\u2019s\u2019 Alan Relativo and Cassie Obaldo went the distance against UBC\u2019s Jerome Malasarte and Miles Rodriguez before pulling off a 12-21, 22-20, 22-20 win. In the men\u2019s AB doubles, UBC this time won with Glen Bluutjens and Nate Guerrero easing past Chris Hilario and Daniel Macario, 21-10, 21-10. UBC also triumphed in the women\u2019s AB  doubles with the mother-and-daughter pair of Malou and Nicole Malasarte outlasting  Fernandez and Bartolome, 21-19, 19-21, 21-19.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s C doubles, Shirley\u2019s and Erwin Lee outclassed UBC\u2019s Peter Han and Jerome Malasarte, 21-12, 21-12, while Baby Banadera and Obaldo needed only two games, too to top Patricia Abantao and Ella Soriano, 21-19, 24-22.<\/p>\n<p>Shirley\u2019s also took the men\u2019s BC doubles after relation and Oh Im Bog swept Guerrero and Don Castillo, 21-13, 21-12, while UBC got the victory in the mixed BC doubles as Rodriguez and Mhar Dela Cruz outclassed Patrick Fernandez and Banadera, 21-12, 19-21, 21-15. The women\u2019s BC doubles also went to three games with Shirley\u2019s Vilma Reyes and Banadera winning over Rodriguez and Soriano, 18-21, 21-11, 21-16.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s AA doubles, Bluutjens and Guerrero teamed up anew and defeated Macoi Aguda and Macario, 21-19, 21-15, while UBC topped the mixed AA doubles with Andreau Galvez Malasarte sweeping Arago and Choi, 21-19, 21-13.<\/p>\n<p>The three remaining events were decided after three games.
