(Contributed Photo)\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Former Saipan track athlete Yvonne Bennett is setting her sights on becoming a leading actress, landing her first major supporting role in the upcoming film Love, Kennedy, directed by Tom C. Christensen.<\/p>\n<p>The film is based on a true story about a girl named Kennedy who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Bennett plays the role of Alexus \u201cLexi\u201d Velasquez, a fellow cheerleader who changes Kennedy\u2019s life for the better.<\/p>\n<p>Yvonne\u2019s father, Ambrose Bennett, said, \u201cI am really lost for words but I did want to share this\u2026especially our youth who need to know [that] there is no limit to what they can do, coming from the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are hopeful that her supporters in the CNMI will take the time to look at the trailer. Hopefully they will see the film and say a prayer for our daughter&#8217;s continued success. My wife and I are so proud of her and we are trying to work with Yvonne and the film director to have a special showing here in the CNMI when it is released in June of next year,\u201d Ambrose Bennett said.<\/p>\n<p>Bennett paid her way through acting school while working full time as the manager of the Abercrombie &amp; Fitch store in Salt Lake City. She had also started acting in the meantime, getting roles as extras.<\/p>\n<p>Bennett herself said: \u201cI am so grateful for the unconditional support my parents have given me. It means the world to me that they both support me with chasing my dream to become an actress. If I didn\u2019t have their support it would be almost impossible for me to pursue it. It seriously is a tough business to get into. With that said, I am gaining a tough skin and becoming a better Yvonne.
