{"id":241858,"date":"2016-12-05T06:06:19","date_gmt":"2016-12-04T20:06:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=241858"},"modified":"2016-12-05T06:06:19","modified_gmt":"2016-12-04T20:06:19","slug":"mhs-students-dismissed-early-due-water-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/mhs-students-dismissed-early-due-water-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"MHS students dismissed early due to water issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marianas High School students were dismissed early last Friday around 9:30am due to a water issue that prevented them access to the restrooms for several hours.<\/p>\n<p>MHS principal Sherlyn Cabrera said, \u201cWe have a water situation that we weren\u2019t able to fix. \u2026We\u2019ve been trying to fix it since yesterday and all this morning, but there\u2019s a time limit that if students were to not have any access to water for two hours, the school is forced to let them go home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school\u2019s own lifespan was the underlying cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur school is very old, built in 1967, so there are some infrastructure problems in our water pipes, electricity, pump, and water tank, making it several different factors. We\u2019re aware it can be problematic and we have been dealing with it for some time now. This is actually the first time since I\u2019ve been here that we had to release the students,\u201d Cabrera said. <\/p>\n<p>Catherine Biscocho, a senior in MHS, said, \u201cI\u2019m kind of disappointed in the water interruption today. It is the right call though since things might get really bad if there were to be an emergency here in the school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCUC has been working with us and I was keeping in touch with our commissioner the whole time.
