{"id":242297,"date":"2016-12-12T06:06:02","date_gmt":"2016-12-11T20:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=242297"},"modified":"2016-12-12T06:06:02","modified_gmt":"2016-12-11T20:06:02","slug":"zoning-oks-nmifa-soccer-pitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/zoning-oks-nmifa-soccer-pitch\/","title":{"rendered":"Zoning OK\u2019s NMIFA soccer pitch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Zoning Board last Dec. 1 approved the conditional use application of an association\u2019s plans to build a soccer pitch in Koblerville.<\/p>\n<p>The Northern Mariana Islands Football Association plans to construct a $1.5-million soccer pitch complete with roofed bleachers, lockers, toilets and showers, meeting rooms, and a storage area adjacent to the idle land next to the Koblerville Fire Station. <\/p>\n<p>The soccer pitch would be the first not situated within a school campus in the CNMI. <\/p>\n<p>NMIFA general secretary Ross Zapanta serves as the contact person for the Zoning board. <\/p>\n<p>The project was well received by the attendees of the public hearing. <\/p>\n<p>Rep. Joseph \u201cLee Pan\u201d Guerrero (R-Saipan) applauded NMIFA and shared with the Zoning board that thinks that the land is better off used as a venue for soccer matches. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have the proper approved facilities for soccer,\u201d said Guerrero. <\/p>\n<p>Frank Tomokane, a resident of Koblerville, said he supports the project. <\/p>\n<p>The construction is expected to start on January 2017.
