(Roselyn B. Monroyo)

Rollers 1 and CTSI got the solo lead in their respective divisions in the 2016 TanHoldings Christmas Basketball Tournament after easing past separate opponents last Wednesday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.

Rollers 1 downed the 670 Thunder, 54-23, for its second straight win and the early lead in the boys U16 division. The 670 Thunder dropped to a 1-1 card for a share of third place with the Ol’Aces 2. The 670 Sonics (1-0), MHS (0-1), Rollers 2 (0-1), and Ol’Aces 1 (0-0) complete the field.

Angelo Factor and Jude Tengco led Rollers 1’s balance offense after scoring 10 points each. Five of their teammates contributed at least two baskets apiece, while Parsley Linaogo was the top scorer for the 670 Thunder, but made only 7 points.

Rollers 1 set up the easy victory after building a 27-13 advantage at the half. The 670 Thunder never made headway in the second half after drilling only three field goals in the entire 20 minutes of play.

In the first women’s division match, CTSI was also never threatened en route to its 29-point winning margin against the Jingle Ballers, 43-14.

CTSI, which now has a 2-0 mark to lead the eight-team field, had the game in the bag right at the end of the first half after enjoying a 33-1 lead. Five different players scored for CTSI in the opening 20 minutes of the match, while Ma. Theresa Dalusong logged the lone point for the Jingle Ballers.

The Jingle Ballers picked up their scoring a bit in the second half, but it was not enough to save the team from its debut loss.

Mary Kay Alferos had 10 markers for CTSI, which got a combined 22 points from Jeraldine Castillo, Mikki Kautz, and Madeleine Alegre. Three other CTSI players scored in their rout of the Jingle Ballers, which had only Dalusong and Desrei Camacho making it to the board with 10 and 4 markers, respectively.

In the other women’s division match last Wednesday, Armatech pulled off a come-from-behind 25-24 win against Shirley’s in overtime (0-2).

Marlene Lumabi lifted Armatech to its debut victory after registering the team’s last 7 points, including the 4 markers in the extension. Lumabi finished with a game-high 12 points.

Rose Jones had 11 on a losing effort for Shirley’s, which led at the break, 4-13, but lost the upper hand in the second half after converting only four field goals against the eight of Armatech. In overtime, Shirley’s hit only one basket, courtesy of a triple from Camille Muna.

Meanwhile, action in the holiday caging continued yesterday with two matches each in the women’s and boys U16 division and one in the men’s U25 age group.

WOMEN’S DIVISION
First Game
CTSI 43 — Alferos 10, Castillo 8, M.
