U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona on Monday ordered Junior Larry Hillbroom yesterday to provide the court with the status of his criminal cases in Palau.<\/p>\n
Manglona directed Hillbroom to provide the federal court and the opposing parties in his lawsuit copies of recent Palau court orders.<\/p>\n
Yesterday\u2019s hearing was about Hillbroom\u2019s bid to ask for more time to respond to motions and to amend the scheduling order.<\/p>\n
Manglona said Hillbroom submitted last Sept. 30 two orders from the Supreme Court of the Republic of Palau Trial Division. In the second order dated Aug. 1, 2016, the Palau Supreme Court authorized Hillbroom to travel to California and Idaho.<\/p>\n
Manglona said the Palau court further authorized Hillbroom to travel to Saipan to attend the final settlement conference.<\/p>\n
Hillbroom has filed a legal malpractice lawsuit in federal court against his former lawyers David J. Lujan and Barry Israel. <\/p>\n
The Palau court has allowed the temporary release of Hillbroom upon posting a cash bail of $275,000 and required him to provide a copy of any notice of deposition, hearing or other court-required appearance for his lawsuits in the CNMI and other jurisdictions.<\/p>\n
Hillbroom, who is now in his early 30\u2019s, is one of the four DNA-proven children of the late business tycoon and DHL co-founder Larry Lee Hillblom. He was recaptured in Palau hours after he allegedly escaped from police\u2019s custody last Feb. 19, just a few days after he was arrested over the seizure of $160,000 worth o methamphetamine or \u201cice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hillbroom\u2019s mother, Kaelani Kinney, is a Palauan. <\/p>\n
Hillbroom\u2019s name is spelled differently from DHL co-founder Larry Hillblom. <\/p>\n
Hillbroom is suing Lujan and Israel for allegedly conspiring with a former trustee to inflate the attorney\u2019s contingency fee when Hillblom\u2019s fortune was undergoing probate proceedings in the Superior Court.<\/p>\n
Hillblom, founder of DHL Express, died in a plane crash off Anatahan waters in 1995. His body was never recovered.<\/p>\n
