Reyes Elementary School.

“[Gunnar] has toys, five other dogs to play with, and a few cats to teach him how to behave,” said Ain, chuckling.

“Gunnar has been doing fine. His back legs are still really rubbery; they don’t stand up straight, but he is getting better,” she added.

The dog was named after Capt. Gunnar Coffman who reported the dog’s condition to Saipan Cares for Animals.

Gunnar exhibits weak hind legs, indicating a sign of malnutrition, which SCA believes is due to the negligence of his previous owner.

The 5-month-old puppy is now recovering happily with a new pack that has happily accepted him, said Ain.

“He is taking [medications] to help take care of the mange.
