The Marianas Visitors Authority thinks a viable way to tackle Rota and Tinian\u2019s economic slump is by setting up an effective means of transportation to and from Saipan.<\/p>\n
MVA managing director Chris Concepcion said his recent meetings with tourism professionals from Korea, China, and Japan have a common denominator\u2014\u201cthe lack of reliable, steady, and larger transportation methods between Saipan and Tinian and Rota.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been repeated inquiries regarding ferry transportation from Saipan\u2014vehicle ferries in particular\u2014to enable tourists and residents from Saipan to bring their vehicles onboard, spend the day or more on Tinian, and help spread some of the revenue being produced and spent on Saipan to our sister islands in the south,\u201d said Concepcion.<\/p>\n
MVA suggests this method as a way to help the economies of both Tinian and Rota and recognizes the need for private investment to occur as well as some public subsidy \u201cto help it get on track until it becomes sustainable and profitable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Concepcion said MVA is ready to support a mode of transportation to and from the southernmost islands of the CNMI.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe encourage our partners at the Commonwealth Development Authority and Commonwealth Ports Authority to look into ways to help stimulate this type of investment in the CNMI,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
