{"id":245321,"date":"2017-01-30T06:00:20","date_gmt":"2017-01-29T20:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=245321"},"modified":"2017-01-30T06:00:20","modified_gmt":"2017-01-29T20:00:20","slug":"ada-others-inducted-new-shrm-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/ada-others-inducted-new-shrm-officers\/","title":{"rendered":"Ada, others inducted as new SHRM officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter inducted its new set of officers following a membership meeting last Friday at the Pacific Islands Club\u2019s Charley\u2019s Cabaret.<\/p>\n<p>DFS Saipan\u2019s Esther Ada took her oath as president for calendar year 2017. Also sworn in were vice president Frank Ada of Triple J, treasurer Denise Montenegro of Hyatt Regency Saipan, secretary Catherine Cachero of Marianas Legal Strategy Group, LLC, director\/membership chair Penny Jones of Hyatt, director\/program chair Vanessa Deleon Guerrero of Pacific Island Cub, and immediate past-president Josephine Mesta, Hyatt.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after being sworn in, Ada said she wants to boost the membership of SHRM during her time in office.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI want to bring it up to 120 members from the current 80. We will have a membership drive. We encourage you to encourage other HR professionals to join us and we have great incentives for that referral. One of the incentives we\u2019re thinking about is the upcoming SHRM national conference in New Orleans. The person with the most referrals, the person with the most signs up, we\u2019ll pay [for his or her] the registration fee for the national conference,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Ada is also keen to organize a study group for SHRM members who want to take the organization\u2019s certification exam.<\/p>\n<p>The installation group of past presidents who oversaw the swearing in of the new officers included Frank Gibson of HR Support, CNMI; Malou Ernest of Asia Pacific Hotels, Inc.; Deborah Camacho of Best Sunshine International, Ltd.; Shirley Dotts of IT&amp;E; and Frances Torres-Salas of the Office of Personnel Management, CNMI                                         government.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the induction, attorney Glenn Jewell discussed how to properly conduct internal investigations of discrimination complaints. <\/p>\n<p>EUCON International University president Dr. Christian Wei also spoke and explained the university\u2019s upcoming hospitality training program in conjunction with the Ching Kuo Institute of Management and Health from Taiwan.  <\/p>\n<p>SHRM is the world\u2019s largest association devoted to human resource management. The group serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, and more than 575 affiliated chapters. The NMI Chapter is affiliated with the national organization.
