Four middle school students representing the Commonwealth will face \u201cmathletes\u201d from other states in a national competition after bagging medals in the statewide contest last Saturday at Koblerville Elementary School.<\/p>\n
After two regular meets in October and December, 50 students qualified and 44 students from public and private schools competed for a spot to be on the CNMI team that will compete at the (INTER)2 SECT, a high-level multi-state competition. <\/p>\n
The students will compete for awards against other teams from school districts across the nation in San Francisco, California, next month. <\/p>\n
The state competition consisted of two categories: team and individual rounds. Marianas Baptist Academy dominated the team round, placing first. The team players were Jeong Min Seo, Joanah Victoria Jimenez, Sarah Park, and Victoria Nicole Santos. <\/p>\n
Agape Christian School placed second in the team round. Their players were Frederic Dean Michael Guintu, Shengzan Pan, Enyi Wang, and Zhiying Wang.<\/p>\n
Grace Christian Academy\u2019s Julie Quan placed third in the team round.<\/p>\n
The top four students, based on both team and individual rounds, will be representing the CNMI at the (INTER)2 SECT competition. MBA\u2019s Victoria Nicole Santos will be leading the CNMI MathCourt team\u2019s campaign. She and two other students from ACS and MBA\u2014Frederic Dean Michael Guintu and Joanah Victoria Jimenez\u2014swept the top three positions. Saipan Community School\u2019s Seung Ju Lee will be the fourth member to represent the CNMI. <\/p>\n
Saipan International School\u2019s James Lee, along with ACS\u2019 Zhiying Wang, Kevin Tang, and Tanapag Middle School\u2019s Rinto Takahashi, are alternates for the CNMI team. <\/p>\n
The (INTER)2 SECT is the largest math competition in the nation. Finalist teams compete for trophies and prizes in the main events. The CNMI last sent students to compete in the (INTER)2 SECT competition last year. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
