Acting Commonwealth Utilities Corp. executive director Gary Camacho said yesterday he is ready to meet with Rep. Frank Dela Cruz (R-Saipan) to discuss the Leidos report, which came up with best possible power generation source for CUC.<\/p>\n
Camacho said he is more than willing to meet with Dela Cruz to discuss the specifics of the report, after Dela Cruz questioned CUC\u2019s decision to scrap Leidos Engineering LLC\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n
Dela Cruz chairs the House Committee on Public Utilities and Communication.<\/p>\n
Two years have passed since the report first came out.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will be coordinating with Rep. Dela Cruz to respectfully address and discuss all of these matters,\u201d said Camacho. He declined to cite specifics.<\/p>\n
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce also voiced out its desire for the government to revisit the report. <\/p>\n
SCC secretary Alex Sablan, in a statement in late 2016, said that Leidos has been doing numerous reports and projects similar to this around the world.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Leidos] has done this thing thousands of times and we felt that it was going to be the most impartial process in achieving our ultimate goal of getting consistent power. If not cheaper, at least it is consistent, reliable, and clean power,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Leidos, a Fortune 500 company, was commissioned by the Office of Insular Affairs for a little over half-a-million dollars to study the type of power generation that would be most viable for the CNMI.
