{"id":246577,"date":"2017-02-16T06:00:28","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T20:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=246577"},"modified":"2017-02-16T06:00:28","modified_gmt":"2017-02-15T20:00:28","slug":"call-history-conference-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/call-history-conference-papers\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for history conference papers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Northern Marianas Humanities Council, University of Guam, Northern Marianas College, and Guampedia issued a call yesterday for papers for the 3rd Marianas History Conference. <\/p>\n<p>The conference will be held on Saipan on Sept. 1-3, 2017, at a venue to be announced.  <\/p>\n<p>A full range of topics associated with the Marianas Archipelago\u2019s history will be addressed at the conference, with a particular focus on the conference\u2019s subtheme \u201cMilestones in Marianas History.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Papers may be submitted under the following general categories:<br \/>\n\u2022 Ancient Chamorro history;<br \/>\n\u2022 Late colonial (19th\u2013 early 20th centuries);<br \/>\n\u2022 World War II; recent (post-war); and<br \/>\n\u2022 Oral history and genealogical research.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers also encourage student presentations.<\/p>\n<p>Paper abstracts with a maximum of 150 words and the presenter\u2019s biography may be submitted online via the following link: tinyurl.com\/3rdMHC.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for abstracts is 28 April 2017. Conference presenters will be allotted 20 minutes to present with an additional 10 minutes for questions and discussion.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will feature keynote presentations by Julian Aguon, Dr. Carlos Madrid, and Dr. Laura T. Souder.
