Because of this, Wonenberg served as the college’s macebearer during the last three commencement exercises.

NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez said that Wonenberg’s passing saddened the entire NMC community, as he was a “prolific artist whose passion for art and education has inspired thousands of students and artists.”

“Although [Wonenberg] is no longer with us, we are glad we can continue to showcase his immense talent and skill through the exhibit featured at NMC’s Library,” she added.

The exhibit features various ceramic pieces and sketches, all of which demonstrate the mastery that Wonenberg attained in his craft.

Many of the items on display are on loan from Wonenberg’s wife, Margarita DLG Wonenberg, and family. The exhibit was also made possible with the support and assistance of Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Robert Hunter.

“We are very thankful to Maggie and her children for sharing Barry’s legacy with the community,” said Fernandez.

The exhibit started last Jan. 17 and will run for the remainder of the semester, which will end in mid-May.

Community members are invited to visit the exhibit, located inside the Olympio T. Borja Memorial Library, from 8am to 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 5pm on Fridays.

Included in the exhibit is the chance to share thoughts, memories, stories, etc. about Wonenberg and/or his work by writing on blank canvases and in a commemorative book that’s also featured in the exhibit.

Once the exhibit ends in May, the book would be given to Wonenberg’s family as a keepsake.

Wonenberg passed away last Dec. 21, 2016.

The Northern Marianas College is showcasing the internationally recognized sculptures of the late Barry Wonenberg,…

[8
14845,15626,69,133
post-246682","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-life-and-style","tag-barry-wonenberg","tag-borja-memorial-library","tag-nmc","tag-run
["GET
