Ada Gymnasium.

Bouts will be held in seven weight classes from 11am to 6pm and each participants need to pay only $10 to enter the event. Mixed martial artists are allowed to test their might in multiple weight categories. Weight divisions include pennyweight (100-120-lbs), bantamweight (121-135-lbs), featherweight (136-145-lbs), welterweight (156-170-lbs), middleweight (171-200-lbs), and heavyweight (201-lbs and up).

Last year, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Purple belt Keli “The Rukiz” Manglona raised a pair of middleweight and light-heavyweight gold medals after an impressive performance during a coincidental visit back to the CNMI.

The Tinian-born Wand Fight Team and Legion BJJ prospect basically stole the show and went undefeated over a combined field of 19 competitors.

In addition, Universal Alliance’s Ryan Bustamante settled for middleweight silver, but took the welterweight gold over a field of 16 fighters, while Marianas Elite’s Derek “El Peligro” Rangamar triumphed over 25 other featherweights. Trench Tech’s Shane “Pikaboo” Alvarez denied Bustamante of a lightweight crown and seized the gold over a field of 20, while Guam’s Shane Aguon was crowned bantamweight champion over a dozen challengers. Trench Tech’s rising heavyweight star Mylo “Bam Bam” Lassiter rolled over four other brutes.

Guam fighters are expected to return this year so Trench Tech president Cuki Alvarez is encouraging young local talents to come out and challenge the visitors. Over 50 participants turned out last year and organizers are hoping to match or even exceed that number next month.

Notably, Trench Tech will be holding this year’s Art of War 7 on its new 30×30 training mats. The group also purchased new boxing gloves and punching bags as they are still recovering from a fire that burned down their old gym in San Antonio in February this year.

Monster Energy, Pepsi, and Docomo Pacific are sponsoring the event.

Form more information, contact Alvarez at 483-4MMA (4662).

By Walter J.
