Saipan International School held an induction ceremony for its National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society on Feb. 22, 2017, at Charlie’s Cabaret at Pacific Island Club.<\/p>\n

Both honor societies are the nation’s premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school and middle level students.<\/p>\n

At SIS, both NHS and NJHS have very stringent membership requirements. To be considered, students must have at least 3.7 GPA and must go through a rigorous selection process. The candidates are evaluated on the basis of character, leadership, and service to the school and the community, and a five-member faculty council decides the admission of the candidates.<\/p>\n

Parents, guests, and teachers assembled at the induction ceremony to welcome new members. The lighting of the white candle marked the beginning of the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Thirteen NJHS and 17 NHS inductees entered the theater, received candles, recited the pledges, and joined the honor societies.<\/p>\n

SIS headmaster Ron Snyder welcomed the guests and spoke briefly about the honor societies, while adviser Ingur Lee presented the candidates.<\/p>\n

For school year 2016-17, SIS added Anastasiia Shamanaeva, Anika Snyder, Chae Lim Jung, Chae Yeon Jung, Eun Seo No, Henry Qian, Hyeong Jae Park, Jieun Yang, Judy Bang, Jung Woo Yoon, Mauryzon Tybaco, Myland Goodwin, and Yeon Kyoung No to NJHS and Alex Park, Ami Tsukagoshi, Andrew Hudkins, Anna Calvert, Annabelle Soledad Sablan, Chloe Kosack-Albuen, Clayton Izuka, Hyeong Joon Park, Isabel Dickinson, Jie Tian, Jun Bum Huh, Hun Hee Lee, Michael Lee, Nathania Tan, Prunella Pellegrino, Su Rui Huang, and Yu Byung Park to NHS.<\/p>\n

To maintain membership, the new members must maintain high standards and participate in a service project. For the past years, NJHS and NHS members of SIS have adopted a yearlong schoolwide mentoring program to assist elementary and middle school students. (PR) <\/strong><\/p>\n
