{"id":24758,"date":"2012-07-24T08:02:16","date_gmt":"2012-07-24T08:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newspaper.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=24758"},"modified":"2012-07-24T08:02:16","modified_gmt":"2012-07-24T08:02:16","slug":"wps-principal-appeals-detention-order-to-ninth-circuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wps-principal-appeals-detention-order-to-ninth-circuit\/","title":{"rendered":"WPS principal appeals detention order to Ninth Circuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Whispering Palms School principal Thomas Weindl is appealing to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit the federal court&#8217;s order for his continued detention while awaiting trial on a child porn charge.<\/div>\n<p>Weindl, through counsel, filed a notice in the U.S. District Court for the NMI on Friday about his appeal to the Ninth Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Weindl wants the Ninth Circuit to reverse U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona&#8217;s detention order issued on July 17.<\/p>\n<p>No argument was presented in the notice of appeal.<\/p>\n<p>The 57-year-old Weindl is facing charges of using a laptop to view child pornographic materials, mostly of 11-year-old girls.<\/p>\n<p>After conducting a detention hearing, Manglona said the facts require that Weindl be kept detained after finding probable cause to believe that he has committed an offense for which a maximum prison term of 10 years or more is prescribed<\/p>\n<p>The judge determined that the defendant has not rebutted the presumption that no condition will reasonably assure his appearance and the safety of the community.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S. government&#8217;s motion, the prosecution cited that as indicated in the e-blaster reports, Weindl searched for and accessed almost 200 websites containing images of child pornography.<\/p>\n<p>E-blaster is a computer and Internet monitoring software program.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution said that several of the searches conducted and websites accessed, specifically reference \u201c11-year-old girl\u201d and \u201c12-year-old\u201d engaging in sexual conduct.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution added that Weindl also searched for images depicting the violent sexual abuse of children.<\/p>\n<p>Federal Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Weindl last month on charges of receipt of child pornography and accessing child pornography with intent to view.<\/p>\n<p>By Ferdie de la Torre<br \/>\nReporter<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Whispering Palms School principal Thomas Weindl is appealing to the U.S. Court of Appeals for&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[314,93,257],"class_list":["post-24758","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","tag-computer","tag-district-court","tag-nmi"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24758","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=24758"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/24758\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=24758"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=24758"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=24758"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
