(Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Acting governor Victor B. Hocog signed a proclamation declaring March as American Red Cross Month last Wednesday on Capital Hill. The proclamation honors ARC volunteers, especially the NMI Chapter.<\/p>\n<p>The proclamation is the best time to recognize ARC volunteers and thank everyday heroes for their contribution to the community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a long history of helping our neighbors in need in the CNMI. [The proclamation recognizes] ARC volunteers and donors who give of their time and resources to help community members in the CNMI,\u201d states part of the proclamation.<\/p>\n<p>ARC volunteers help find shelter for families after a home fire, donate blood for trauma victims and cancer patients, use their lifesaving skills to save a person who is suffering from a heart attack, drowning or choking, and facilitate the vaccination of kids against measles and rubella.<\/p>\n<p>The proclamation applauds the local heroes who selflessly give their time and effort in assisting people during disasters or anyone who needs a helping hand. \u201cThe [ARC] depends on local heroes to deliver help and hope during a disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ARC responds to disasters all over the world. Every 80 minutes the organization provides shelter, food, emotional support, and other needs of those affected.<\/p>\n<p>The ARC also collects 40 percent of the nation\u2019s blood supply;\u00a0gives 24-hour support to members of the armed forces, veterans, and their respective families; conducts lifesaving skills training like being a lifeguard, and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other first aid; and connects family members separated by crisis, conflict or migration through its restoring family links program.<\/p>\n<p>March is dedicated to all ARC volunteers and those who support the organization\u2019s mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering during times of emergencies or disasters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur community depends on the [ARC], which relies on donations of time, money, and blood to fulfill its humanitarian mission,\u201d said the proclamation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acting governor Victor B.
