{"id":247683,"date":"2017-03-06T06:06:28","date_gmt":"2017-03-05T20:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=247683"},"modified":"2017-03-06T06:06:28","modified_gmt":"2017-03-05T20:06:28","slug":"uog-college-hosts-research-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/uog-college-hosts-research-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"UOG college hosts research conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MANGILAO, GU\u2014The University of Guam College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will hold its 38th Annual Research Conference on Friday, March 10, 2017, from 9am to 5pm, at the History and Social Sciences Building on the UOG campus.\u00a0 The event is open to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s conference theme is\u00a0\u201cScience &amp; Art: Convergence in Oceania.\u201d It will feature over 65 presentations representing a wide range of scholarly disciplines covering the arts, education, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Presenters will include local, regional, national and international scholars and artists.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The conference\u2019s keynote address is scheduled at 11:15am and will take place in the CLASS Lecture Hall.\u00a0\u00a0The keynote speaker is Vicente \u201cVince\u201d M. Diaz, Ph.D.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Diaz, a Filipino and Carolinian (Pohnpei) born and raised in Guam, is currently on the faculty of American Indian Studies and History at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.\u00a0Diaz attended UOG while playing football for the Tritons in the late 1970s.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After schooling in Hawaii and California, he returned to UOG to teach Pacific History and Micronesian Studies from 1991 to 2001.
