{"id":248051,"date":"2017-03-10T06:06:54","date_gmt":"2017-03-09T20:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=248051"},"modified":"2017-03-10T06:06:54","modified_gmt":"2017-03-09T20:06:54","slug":"student-contest-sustainable-tourism-guam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/student-contest-sustainable-tourism-guam\/","title":{"rendered":"Student contest on sustainable tourism in Guam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability presents the 2017 Sustainable Tourism Video and Essay Contest.\u00a0The theme this year is\u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s Talk Trash: A look into tourism trash-flow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by Ada\u2019s Trust and Investment, Inc. for the third year in a row and the Bank of Guam for the second year, contestants will explore one or more aspects of trash related to tourism on Guam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contest theme offers students a good opportunity to look at aspects of tourism that will impact the long-term sustainability of the industry. \u00a0The trash\u00a0left behind from tourism is not something talked about much but will have long-lasting effects if not addressed and handled properly,\u201d aid Sonny Ada, president of Ada\u2019s Trust and Investment, Inc.<\/p>\n<p>Students can choose to submit a 500-2,000-word essay or a 3- to 7-minute video on the topic.<\/p>\n<p>Submission deadline is Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 12pm.<\/p>\n<p>The written category is only open to UOG students. First and second place winners will receive $500 and $250, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The video category is open to both UOG and high school seniors of Guam.
