{"id":248634,"date":"2017-03-21T06:06:47","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T20:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=248634"},"modified":"2017-03-21T06:06:47","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T20:06:47","slug":"hocog-cing-okd-appointments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/hocog-cing-okd-appointments\/","title":{"rendered":"Hocog, Cing OK\u2019d for appointments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Senate committee tasked with reviewing appointments to the CNMI government has recommended the appointment of two nominees to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.\u2019s board of trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Ralph DLG Torres had nominated Dr. Larry Hocog as one of three representatives for Saipan and William Cing as Tinian\u2019s representative on the CHCC board.<\/p>\n<p>Hocog is a practicing medical physician while Cing is the Tinian Health Center director.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation, which reviewed Hocog and Cing\u2019s appointments, have recommended their appointments.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter, to Senate President Arnold Palacios, the committee stated that their appointments \u201cmeets all the necessary requirements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two are expected to pass the Senate scrutiny in tomorrow\u2019s session.<\/p>\n<p>CHCC CEO Esther Mu\u00f1a has declined to comment on the appointment of Hocog and Cing since they were first nominated by Torres last Feb. 8, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Majority of the CHCC employees argued against the passage of Public Law 19-78 saying the additional bureaucracy that could possibly hinder CHCC\u2019s ability to provide healthcare in times of urgent need.<\/p>\n<p>The new law, which was introduced by former representative Felicidad Ogumoro, transformed the previous board\u2019s role from a recommending body into a governing one.<\/p>\n<p>A day after the passage of PL 19-78, CHCC released a statement, saying the corporation intends to \u201cmove forward\u201d and \u201ccontinue to work toward providing better healthcare.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not quit. We believe that an excellent healthcare system and a healthy population is possible in the CNMI.
