{"id":248641,"date":"2017-03-21T06:06:22","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T20:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=248641"},"modified":"2017-03-21T06:06:22","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T20:06:22","slug":"students-invited-join-amp-reading-ranger-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/students-invited-join-amp-reading-ranger-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Students invited to join AMP Reading Ranger Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students in the 3rd to 5th grades are being invited to join the American Memorial Park for a two-day reading program this month.<\/p>\n<p>Called the Reading Ranger program, it will take place on March 23-24, 2017, from 9am to 4:30pm.\u00a0Park rangers will be reading Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr.\u00a0 This book tells the story of a girl from Hiroshima who becomes sick with leukemia in the years after the atom bomb was dropped and her race to fold 1,000 paper cranes.<\/p>\n<p>After reading the book, participates will engage in fun, learning activities and learn about the story\u2019s connections to the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas and the park. Students will also help to fold 1,000 paper cranes that will be sent to the Children\u2019s Peace Memorial in Hiroshima, Japan, in recognition of World Peace Day.<\/p>\n<p>To register, pick up a registration form at the American Memorial Park Visitor Center.\u00a0 For more information, call Jovanna Mafnas at 234-7207 x 2020 or via email at jmafnas@pacifichistoricparks.org.<\/p>\n<p>The Reading Ranger Program was made possible through funds provided by non-profit partners Pacific Historic Parks.
