{"id":248642,"date":"2017-03-21T06:06:02","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T20:06:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=248642"},"modified":"2017-03-21T06:06:02","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T20:06:02","slug":"trial-begins-case-guam-mma-fighter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/trial-begins-case-guam-mma-fighter\/","title":{"rendered":"Trial begins in case of man accused of beating bar customer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The jury trial of a man accused of punching a Garapan bar customer in the face began yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant attorney general Betsy Weintraub called to the witness stand the government\u2019s first witness against David Aguon, Department of Public Safety police officer Flora Aguon.<\/p>\n<p>Flora Aguon testified that police officer Jason Tarkong showed her photo of defendant Aguon but Tarkong, who was called to the witness stand, denied showing her any photo.<\/p>\n<p>Defense attorney Victorino Torres moved to strike Officer Aguon\u2019s testimony<\/p>\n<p>Associate Judge Joseph Camacho ordered the prosecution and the defense to brief the issue and argue the motion to exclude the identity of defendant today, Tuesday, at 9am.<\/p>\n<p>In the defense\u2019s opening statement, attorney Matthew Holley, co-counsel of Torres, stated that the alleged victim was drunk and foul-mouthed at the White and Black Bar in western Garapan in March 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the victim, Christopher Broome, was taken to the hospital due to injuries to the bridge of his nose that required seven stitches.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Broome told a police officer that he was punched in the face and was knocked out. Broome later identified the suspect inside the Tribes Bar in Garapan.
