{"id":249307,"date":"2017-03-31T06:06:32","date_gmt":"2017-03-30T20:06:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=249307"},"modified":"2017-03-31T06:06:32","modified_gmt":"2017-03-30T20:06:32","slug":"red-cross-walkathon-tomorrow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/red-cross-walkathon-tomorrow\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Cross Walkathon tomorrow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Red Cross NMI Chapter is a set for this year\u2019s 31st Walkathon tomorrow, which starts at the 4-H building in Susupe. <\/p>\n<p>Through the efforts of CNMI school children, the walkathon will surely be a huge success. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been working for weeks to prepare for an extra special event this year,\u201d said co-chair Patty P. McDonald. \u201cWe have great giveaways for the walkers and four bounce houses for the younger children.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Coca-Cola group, along with the Pacific Islands Club, are this year\u2019s major donors and \u201chave a long track record of helping our community, particularly with events focused on fitness,\u201d said Tayna Belyeu-Camacho, Red Cross board chair.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s walkathon will take place on Saipan, Rota and Tinian on April 1. <\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 10K the event will have a 5K and Head Start 2K course for the younger children. <\/p>\n<p>A $20 donation to the Red Cross provides entry to the walk, an event T-shirt, a Mickey Mouse plush toy and refreshments from Coke, Foremost and Subway. <\/p>\n<p>Walkers who raise $75 will receive two waterpark passes from PIC. <\/p>\n<p>The Red Cross Walkathon is the largest walking event in Micronesia, with more than 2,500 participants. Prizes will be given out to schools with the most number of walkers and those that raise the most funds. <\/p>\n<p>For more information about the Walkathon and how to participate or volunteer, call the NMI Chapter at 234-3459.
