The Tinian Elementary School held its first Literacy and Numeracy Night on March 28, with over 100 parents and students attending. <\/p>\n
The night started at 4pm and ended at 8pm. There were 10 learning centers altogether and parents and students had to visit at least seven or more centers and have their passport stamped before they can get a gift bag with goodies.<\/p>\n
Registration began at 4pm followed by parents and students\u2019 orientation. Teachers set up the learning centers in the classrooms where parents and students visited and played games related to language arts and math. <\/p>\n
Community partners donated many prizes for the raffle. Elected leaders, vendors and food caterers donated food for the parents and students for the evening. At the end of the evening, everyone gathered at the school cafeteria for the evaluation process and raffle drawing. <\/p>\n
Although many parents, students, faculty and staff were tired by the end of the evening, they still displayed happy faces because of the success of the evening. <\/p>\n
\u201cI had never been so tired since the beginning of this school year. But it is all worth it,\u201d said Carmen Farrell, ELA chairperson.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so happy with the way it turned out. I have never seen so many parents and students in my classroom at one time,\u201d said Ian Pascua, chairperson for the math committee.<\/p>\n
School vice principal Joann Lane Cepeda said: \u201cI am extremely pleased with the number of participants. This has always been one of our major challenges, but with the efforts of or our [Parents, Teachers, Students Association], teachers, staff, parents, students and some community members, this event turned out to be a huge success.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a wonderful event made possible by our hardworking team, our families who came out and participated, our community partners for their untiring support.\u201d<\/p>\n
School principal Lou Connie B Manglona said: \u201cIt was a wonderful event made possible by our hardworking team, our families who came out and participated, our community partners for their untiring support.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cepeda and Manglona said: \u201cWe want to take this opportunity and express our sincere \u2018appreciation and thank you\u2019 to everyone who in one way or another helped us. To our parents and students who came to the event after a long day at work and at school. To our faculties and staff who not only stayed back after a long day at school with the students, but also for the long months preparations. To our community partners, special thanks for the donations of prizes for the raffles and for the food. We hope that this is the beginning of a good relationship in which we can improve our parental and community involvement to make our school a better place for our children. Again our sincere appreciation, sen dangkulu na si yu\u2019us ma\u2019asi and thank you to everyone.\u201d <\/p>\n
Rodney Carbales, Tinian Elementary School PTSA president, said: \u201cIt was a very good turn-out.
