{"id":25001,"date":"2012-07-26T07:18:28","date_gmt":"2012-07-26T07:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newspaper.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=25001"},"modified":"2012-07-26T07:18:28","modified_gmt":"2012-07-26T07:18:28","slug":"870k-for-guam-coastal-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/870k-for-guam-coastal-management\/","title":{"rendered":"$870K for Guam coastal management"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">WASHINGTON, D.C.-The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has awarded $870,000 in federal financial assistance to the Guam Department of Administration.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>This formula grant will be used to help the department administer the Guam Coastal Management Program, which guides the use, protection and development of land and ocean resources within Guam&#8217;s coastal zone.<\/p>\n<p>The grant also will support new initiatives such as the development of legislation to finance natural resource management on Guam; planning for unique \u201cVillage Centers\u201d in north and central Guam; and enhanced public access to coastal and marine resources. The award funds a large range of outreach projects, community engagement and volunteer programs to support responsible resource use, conservation actions in local watersheds and sustainable development of the island.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate NOAA&#8217;s continued support of Guam&#8217;s efforts to protect our coastal areas, and I look forward to seeing these funds benefit our island,\u201d said Delegate Madeleine Z.
