{"id":250409,"date":"2017-04-18T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2017-04-17T20:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=250409"},"modified":"2017-04-18T06:00:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-17T20:00:48","slug":"tourist-couple-allegedly-paid-fake-20-1-bills-restaurant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/tourist-couple-allegedly-paid-fake-20-1-bills-restaurant\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourist couple allegedly paid fake $20, $1 bills at restaurant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Garapan restaurant alledgely detected a counterfeit $20 bill and two counterfeit $1 bills from a tourist couple who had dinner at the establishment on Friday night. <\/p>\n<p>As of press time, Saipan Tribune was still waiting comments from the Office of the Attorney General about the detection of alleged fake money at Shirley\u2019s Coffee Shop in Garapan as well as unconfirmed information that other establishments on the island also received counterfeit bills.<\/p>\n<p>Shirley\u2019s Coffee Shop manager Noelle Rafael said the Chinese couple ordered food and used a fake $20 bill and two fake $1 bills. <\/p>\n<p>Rafael said when the couple handed the folded bills the cashier felt something wrong as the texture of the money was different.<\/p>\n<p>The cashier then used a counterfeit detector pen, which indicated that the bills were indeed fake.<\/p>\n<p>Before the couple left the restaurant, the cashier stopped and informed them about the counterfeit money that they used.<\/p>\n<p>Rafael said the couple claimed that they got the bills from a bank.<\/p>\n<p>The cashier marked the bills so the couple could no longer use them.<\/p>\n<p>Rafael said the incident was referred to management the day after.
