{"id":250557,"date":"2017-04-19T06:00:07","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T20:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=250557"},"modified":"2017-04-19T06:00:07","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T20:00:07","slug":"help-children-become-science-gene-iuses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/help-children-become-science-gene-iuses\/","title":{"rendered":"Help your children become science \u2018GENE-iuses\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Guam College of Natural &amp; Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the University of Hawaii at Manoa\u2019s College of Tropical Agriculture &amp; Human Resources\u2019 GENE-ius Day Program, is establishing a children\u2019s science program called, \u201cGuam Gene-iuses.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Guam Gene-iuses will encourage young students to explore more fully the world of science and help foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills while building an overall passion for science. Once the program gets going, students can enroll in a series of classes that will run every-other-week on Saturday. Each Saturday session will cover fun and exciting topics representing a wide range of science disciplines. Students will engage in hands-on experiments that will encourage scientific thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Guam Gene-iuses\u2019 first trial run on Saturday, April 22, Earth Day. A repeat of the first class will go on for the next one or two consecutive Saturdays (April 29 and May 6) as needed.  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Topic:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe lab will be covering the topic of cells and will be taught in a college laboratory setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who can attend?<\/strong><br \/>\nOnly children in 4th through 6th grade attending a public or private school. Limited to 20 students per session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dates:<\/strong><br \/>\nTwo sessions area available on Saturday, April 22, 2017.<br \/>\nMorning: 10am-12noon and afternoon 2pm-4pm.<br \/>\n Location:<br \/>\nAgricultural &amp; Life Sciences building in the University of Guam campus, Mangilao.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cost:<\/strong><br \/>\nThere is no cost for the first class.
